The Exact Opposite of Okay by Laura Steven | #CroneBookClub 3
Oh my gosh it’s time to announce the third, THIRD, Crone Book Club book! I can’t believe the support we’ve had for this little book club. I’m so excited to announce the next book. It’s one that I really, REALLY loved and I related to, (make of that what you will), so without further ado, this month’s book is The Exact Opposite of Okay by Laura Steven!
“Bitches bite back. And men hate that. Society hates that.” – Laura Steven, The Exact Opposite of Okay

Izzy O’Neill is an aspiring comic, an impoverished orphan, and a Slut Extraordinaire. Or at least, that’s what the malicious website flying round the school says. Izzy can try all she wants to laugh it off – after all, her sex life, her terms – but when pictures emerge of her doing the dirty with a politician’s son, her life suddenly becomes the centre of a national scandal. Izzy’s never been ashamed of herself before, and she’s not going to start now. But keeping her head up will take everything she has...

The Exact Opposite of Okay is truly wonderful. I loved it so so much and I can’t wait for us all to read it together! It is particularly relevant recently as it deals with difficult themes. Laura explores the notion that people (men often) have where they dote on someone, give them attention, gifts, compliments, support they never asked for, and expect to be respected for it… and then get upset/angry when the girl gets creeped out by it. It happens. It’s happened very recently in my circles and honestly it’s just not okay, at all. It’s the exact opposite. If someone EVER makes you feel uncomfortable, even if on the surface they’re just being ‘nice’, tell someone, seek help, block them, do what you need to do. We’re all here for each other.
Anyway, find my full spoiler-free review here! If you have read it, don’t worry you can still join in our discussions!
Don’t worry if you haven’t finished The Extinction Trials yet, last month’s Crone Book Club read, I’ve announced this book in advance of it starting to give everyone a chance to get the book/start early if they need.

How to Take Part in Crone Book Club #3
- We officially start reading on April 22nd after the #CroneBookClub twitter chat with S.M. Wilson! You can start before or after, it’s totally up to you
- We have the official #CroneBookClub Twitter chat 9pm on 20th of May with Laura Steven herself, where we can chat to her about her book and ask any burning questions!
- Between April 22nd and May 20th: We’ll be discussing the book in the discord chat, where I’ll also be posting prompts for discussions! This may take a formal approach but we’re still finding our feet, so any feedback is welcome.
You can get a copy of the The Exact Opposite of Okay by Laura Steven on the Book Depository, which ships internationally for free.

What is Crone Bloggers?
For those of you who have stumbled upon this post and have no idea what’s going on. Basically at the beginning of the year we started Crone Bloggers, where older YA Bloggers can get together and chat about books. We invited you all to join us,
We then announced the Crone Book Club and the first books for the club.
What is #CroneBookClub
- Every 6 weeks we will announce the book that we’re going to be reading for a month together
- We’ll announce the next month’s book 2 weeks before the start of the reading month
- We’ll be chatting about the book as we read in the discord chat
- At the end of the 4 weeks we will be holding a Twitter chat WITH THE AUTHOR where you can ask them questions and chat about the book.
- The chat will be 9pm GMT on a Sunday.
- The books range from Debut to established authors and we have a lot of new releases planned!
- The books will be Young Adult
Other things to note about the book club:
- You don’t have to participate in the month read a long to take part in the chat – and visa versa!
- If you’re a #CroneBlogger you don’t HAVE to take part in the book club

So that’s it!
Who’s excited for the second Crone Book Club? Do you have any suggestions of the kind of books you’d like to see in future? No promises but I’ll do my best!
Let me know if you’re joining us <3
