Cat thought the Hydra epidemic was over, but when new cases pop up, Cat must team up with an enemy to fix the vaccine before the virus spirals out of control in this thrilling sequel to This Mortal Coil, which New York Times bestselling author Amie Kaufman says “redefines ‘unputdownable.’”
The nightmare of the outbreak is finally over, but Cat’s fight has only just begun.
Exhausted, wounded, and reeling from revelations that have shaken her to her core, Cat is at a breaking point. Camped in the woods with Cole and Leoben, she’s working day and night, desperate to find a way to stop Lachlan’s plan to reprogram humanity. But she’s failing—Cat can’t even control her newly regrown panel, and try as she might to ignore them, she keeps seeing glitching visions from her past everywhere she turns.
When news arrives that the Hydra virus might not be as dead as they’d thought, the group is pushed into an uneasy alliance with Cartaxus to hunt down Lachlan and fix the vaccine. Their search takes them to Entropia, a city of genehackers hidden deep in the desert that could also hold the answers about Cat’s past that she’s been searching for.
But when confronted with lies and betrayals, Cat is forced to question everything she knows and everyone she trusts. And while Lachlan is always two steps ahead, the biggest threat to Cat may be the secrets buried in her own mind.
Oh my gosh I am so excited to read This Cruel Design! I read This Mortal Coil last year and it was easily my favourite book of 2017. This Mortal Coil is emotive, addictive, thought provoking YA Sci-Fi with well thought out science, so you bet I can’t wait for This Cruel Design! If you know me at all you’ve probably heard that I love the virus narrative in books and film and honestly, this is such a unique take on the virus narrative! The Hydra virus is so unusual and terrifying, honestly you need to check this one out. Emily is the sweetest as well so that’s also a reason to pick it up.

#1 New York Times bestselling author Kendare Blake returns with the highly anticipated third book in the Three Dark Crowns series!
Katharine sits on the throne, Mirabella and Arsinoe are in hiding, and an unexpected renegade is about to wage a war of her own. The crown has been won, but these queens are far from done.
AHHH I can’t WAIT to read Two Dark Reigns by Kendare Blake! I recently reviewed the Novellas, which I really advise that you read them AFTER you’ve read Three Dark Crowns and One Dark Throne. This series is wonderful and if you haven’t picked it up yet, you need to. I’m slightly obsessed and collect every version of these novels I can get my hands on!

KILLER T by Robert Muchamore on September 6th 2018
Pages: 480
Goodreads
Our world is about to change in ways we can barely imagine. KILLER T is a novel about growing up in that world.
Harry and Charlie are teenagers whose lives are shaped by a society that's shifting around them. He is a lonely Brit in his first term at a Las Vegas high school. She is an unlikely friend, who gets accused of mixing a batch of explosives that blew up a football player.
The two of them are drawn together at a time when gene editing technology is starting to explode. With a lab in the garage anyone can beat cancer, enhance their brain to pass exams, or tweak a few genes for that year-round tan and perfect beach body. But in the wrong hands, cheap gene editing is the most deadly weapon in history. Killer T is a synthetic virus with a ninety per-cent mortality rate, and the terrorists who created it want a billion dollars before they'll release a vaccine.
Terrifying. Romantic. Huge in scope. A story for our times.
I saw Killer T at YALC and missed out on winning a copy, and luckily managed to get one from a friend in the bookishwish tag. I am so excited about this one, namely because of my aforementioned obsession with viruses! Fingers crossed it’s a good one as I haven’t heard of it other than seeing it at YALC.

Nine by Zach Hines Published by HarperTeen on August 7th 2018
Pages: 260
Goodreads
In an alternate world startlingly close to our own, humans have nine lives—and they can’t wait to burn straight through them.
As you shed lives, you shed your awkward phases: one death is equal to one physical and mental upgrade. Julian’s friends are obsessed with the idea of burning lives, but Julian is determined to stay on his first for as long as he can. His mother, the ultimate cautionary tale, burned through her first eight in just a few years, and Julian has no intention of succumbing to the debilitating rebirth sickness that she inflicted on herself.
But the regime has death incentives aimed at controlling overpopulation, and Julian realizes that he’s going to have to burn at some point—especially when he becomes a target for Nicholas, the manipulative leader of the Burners, the school’s suicide club. And when Julian eventually succumbs, he uncovers suspicious gaps in the rebirth system that may explain exactly why his mother went so far down the rabbit hole years ago. Along with a group of student dissenters, Julian sets out to find answers and is soon on the verge of exposing the greatest conspiracy ever unleashed on the world.
He has just eight more lives to uncover the brutal truth.
Okay so the concept of Nine by Zach Hines is just… wonderful? Exciting? I haven’t been this excited about a new book for a while so I can’t WAIT to read this one. I hope I enjoy it as much as I think I will.

Tempests and Slaughter came out already in the US but doesn’t come out for a while in the UK. This looks like it’s going to be a great fantasy and it’s been a while since I’ve really loved a fantasy novel. Looking forward to taking it on.

Into the fire ...
The final part of the trilogy from multi award-winning author Teri Terry.
Shay has followed Xander and joined his mysterious scientific cult at their remote Scottish compound. She's desperately searching for Callie, who went missing before the start of the epidemic that kills 95% of cases, and leaves a tiny number of survivors with astonishing new powers.
Can Shay uncover the truth about the origins of the epidemic, find Callie and perhaps even rekindle her relationship with Kai? Or will Xander's grand plans destroy them all for ever?
I cannot WAIT to read Evolution by Teri Terry! Again, Virus book so of course I’m there for this. This is the third of the series, here’s my review of Deception if you were interested. I love this series because it’s not just a biological virus, it’s physics and also a bit supernatural? It’s so fascinating and you definitely should check it out.

Beneath the Citadel by Destiny Soria Published by Amulet on October 9th 2018
Pages: 480
Goodreads
In the city of Eldra, people are ruled by ancient prophecies. For centuries, the high council has stayed in power by virtue of the prophecies of the elder seers. After the last infallible prophecy came to pass, growing unrest led to murders and an eventual rebellion that raged for more than a decade.
In the present day, Cassa, the orphaned daughter of rebels, is determined to fight back against the high council, which governs Eldra from behind the walls of the citadel. Her only allies are no-nonsense Alys, easygoing Evander, and perpetually underestimated Newt, and Cassa struggles to come to terms with the legacy of rebellion her dead parents have left her — and the fear that she may be inadequate to shoulder the burden. But by the time Cassa and her friends uncover the mystery of the final infallible prophecy, it may be too late to save the city — or themselves.
I managed to win a copy of Beneath the Citadel at YALC, and I hadn’t heard much about it before, but it looks awesome! I can’t wait to get to this.

Admittedly I have a HUGE pile of books to read, and not all of them are in this post… send me reading vibes?
Are any of these on your list? What are you reading this fall?
