Eve of Man by Giovanna & Tom Fletcher | 4 Star Book Review
Eve of Man by Giovanna & Tom Fletcher | 4 Star Book Review
Hi lovelies! I’m here today with a review of Eve of Man, which I read on a whim recently. I didn’t really have any preconceived notions and was very pleasantly surprised! I really enjoyed this book, a few things made it miss the 5 star mark but they’re not huge deal breakers.
Eve of Man is a futuristic tale which makes us question our morality, painting a terrifying future of the planet we call home.
As always, this is a spoiler free review!

EVE OF MAN is the first in an explosive new trilogy by bestselling authors Giovanna & Tom Fletcher.

Eve of Man is set in a futuristic world where, for some reason, girls stop being born. Now, here is one of my issues with the book. We don’t find out why girls stop being born, at all, but it’s something we move on from for the sake of the plot and is more of an annoyance on my part!
It plays a lot on current fears and issues of the world going down the pan, with the world suffering from the way humans have treated it. Mother nature is rebelling and causing destruction in the form of floods and storms, something that hits close to home.
It also gives a lot to think about in terms of morality. Just because something should be done, is it morally right? Yes the world is ending, but should all that weight be put onto the shoulders of Eve, a teenage girl? Isn’t she entitled to a normal life? It’s a hard question to answer, and this book explores it brilliantly.
There’s a pretty big twist I’m CERTAIN is coming, but it didn’t come by the end of the book so I’m waiting for it to appear in the sequel! (DM me if you wanna chat about it!)

The story is told from the POV of Eve, the only girl born in decades, and Bram, who is a ‘pilot’, but not the kind of pilot you’re thinking. We get to see what they think and feel as they’re faced with adverse situations. It has a steady pace and the majority of the story is centered around the Dome where Eve lives.
There are quite a few twists and turns which surprised me, and others that didn’t. The romance element went mostly where I thought it was going to go, with a few twists thrown in just to throw you off!

I really liked Eve. I feel like she’s had so much going on in her life, so much to handle, and still has her shit together, mostly. I couldn’t imagine what it would be like to be in her position and have the fate of the world on your shoulders. She’s so smart, but also makes emotional decisions, and I look forward to seeing how she handles the events in the next book!
Bram, poor Bram. He’s been through a lot and I really like him. I think he’s strong after what he’s gone through, though I think he could probably benefit from some therapy!
There are so many side characters that I love, and my heart broke for them again and again. So be warned!

Thanks for the review Jenn! I’ve had this on my shelf for so long – it sounds like a great mix of plot and character driven?
Hopefully they’ll answer the ‘why’ in the sequels as to what caused the stop of girl being born.
I hope so too!
Am I right in thinking Tom Fletcher was in McFly?
Yes haha!
