Hello friends! I keep meaning to do this tag but always forget. BUT NO MORE. This week’s Top Ten Tuesday is Back to School themed and I immediately thought of Wunderkds by Jacqueline Silvester.
I was on the blog tour for this book last year and I loved it. Jacky and I did a fan cast of the novel which was loads of fun, but I realised I didn’t really do a review? Now it’s been a while since I read this one so this is going to be a condensed review, I hope you enjoy!

Jacqueline has had a colourful and dual life thus far; she's lived in a refugee camp in Sweden, a castle in France, a village in Germany, and spent her formative years in between Los Angeles, London and New York. As a result, she speaks four languages. Jacqueline has a Bachelors in English Literature from the University Of Massachusetts, and a Masters in Screenwriting from Royal Holloway, University Of London. After graduating she wrote her first novel and began writing cartoon screenplays. The two years she spent in an arts boarding school in the woods have inspired the particular world described in her debut novel Wunderkids. She lives in London with her husband, her excessive YA collection and a hyper husky named Laika.
Wunderkids has been translated into a number of languages and featured in Vogue magazine!
Wunderkids is a novel set in a prestigious boarding school, where the main character, Nikka, has been accepted on a scholarship basis. It was different to what I was expecting, and I was surprised so many times! It was full of sinister doings and conspiracy theories, with hints that something more was going on but at no point was it really obvious and in your face (I’m still not sure exactly what’s going on!)
I LOVED the love triangle, admittedly it’s a YA trope that I’m obsessed with (tropes are the best thing, don’t @ me). The characters were well developed with fascinating back story. I loved trying to figure out what they were all hiding, there were so many layers of secrets!
There’s a cliffhanger at the end and I am chomping on the bit waiting for the next one. I have a feeling that the next one is going to be dramatically different!
My boyfriend doesn’t read much, but he picked up Wunderkids at YALC and couldn’t put it down. He loved it, and that’s high praise if there ever was! I asked him to give me a short review and this is what he said.

It was good. It was a slow burner with great world building which rose to a crescendo where it all kicked off half way through. I liked the plot, it was unique, I couldn’t put it down. When I did put it down I was genuinely looking forward to reading it again. There were hints throughout leading to the end, which was dark. I liked the parallel that each character had their own secrets whilst trying to figure out the school’s. I’m looking forward to the next one.

I love that your boyfriend is doing reviews with you! I would love to one day get my boyfriend to do the same for me… although for now I need to focus on just getting him to pick up a book!
