5 Reasons Why I Started Blogging by Ellie | Newbie Blogger Spotlight
Newbie Blogger Spotlight No.2
Hello friends! Today I bring you the next instalment of the Newbie Blogger Spotlight! A while ago I announced that I was doing this Newbie Blogger Spotlight. This is going to be a feature I will have on my blog weekly (as much as possible) where I will share a guest post from a lovely newbie blogger. They will be talking about why they got into blogging, what they enjoy about it and whatever else they’d like to share. I hope you’re all lovely to these bloggers and go and check them out, let’s spread the blogging love! Remember how you felt when you were first starting out.
Last week I shared a post by Derbyshireduck about reading bedtime stories to children. Today’s post is from @hatterell and she’s talking about why she started blogging.

5 Reasons Why I Started Blogging
Hi everyone! My name is Ellie, and I write over at https://hatterell.com. I’m really excited to be working with Jenn and writing for her blog today! I’m pretty new to the blogging world, having only started my own blog at the beginning of June, so today I’m going to tell you 5 reasons why I started blogging.
1.Having a creative outlet that I could entirely control. Throughout my life I’ve been creative in many ways. Particularly during my first year of university, I wrote various types of articles and reviews for multiple publications and had a lot of fun doing it. However, in all of these scenarios my writing, the books I could review and the topics I could cover, had to be cleared by some sort of editor. I never minded this, but I found that a bank of ideas for posts was building in my head, and I had nowhere I could take them. I ended up setting up a blog for my university book club, and as I was going through the process on WordPress I thought, hey, I could do this! It would take further learning about how to create and run a blog, but it would be a project that was entirely my own. One month in, and I can definitely say I’m so glad that I took the plunge. Although I haven’t ventured far beyond book reviews on my blog yet, I’m loving the process of writing on all kinds of topics and developing creative ideas instead of reluctantly letting them slip away.
2. Skills. Like I mentioned above, setting up a blog does take a bit of work. I’m not the most tech savvy person, and I found the process fun and manageable, but I definitely acknowledge that it required a lot of googling new terms and an absolute dedication to reaching my end goal, or I would have easily given up. It’s certainly a challenge, but I’m find the challenges of my blogging experience to be infinitely rewarding. I also knew right from the beginning that I wanted to have some sort of schedule for my blog, as this would push me to write regularly, something that I wanted to achieve this summer. Although I slid off track a little the week after I set up my blog, I’ve since found my blog schedule an excellent excuse to manage my time better.
3. Writing about books. For anyone who is unfamiliar with my blog, I write primarily about books. I study English Literature at university and have been a reader since birth; books are definitely my passion! I wanted to be able to review whatever books I wanted without having to fit the theme of a magazine or being otherwise limited. Goodreads is a great resource and I love it, but I wanted a platform that represented me and my reading tastes.
4. Community. I’ve been a member of bookstagram for a few years now, and I absolutely adore finding new accounts and having conversations about literature in the comments of posts. However, Instagram has its own limitations, and I wanted to be able to write more extensively in a way that doesn’t really co-operate with Instagram captions. Since starting my blogs I’ve found more communities on Twitter and in new Goodreads groups, and it’s one of my favourite things to get a notification saying that someone has commented on one of my blog posts. It’s also really nice to login to social media and see bloggers and book lovers expressing their passions on a daily basis.
5. Confidence. I want to become confident and secure in my writing and creativity, and I thought that the best way to do that was practice! I’m incredibly proud of the blog posts that I’ve released so far, and I’m really excited about the ones that are yet to come, but I want to keep pushing myself to be the best I can.
I hope you enjoyed reading my reasons for beginning blogging! Essentially, it was the most freeing platform that I could think of. If you’re reading this and questioning whether to begin your own blog, whatever the topic, I urge you to do it! It’s one of the most fun and rewarding things I’ve ever done.
Thanks again to Jenn for letting me guest post for her today, and I’d love to see you over at my blog sometime soon!

Welcome to the blogging world, Ellie! It’s not at all scary here. We’re perfectly normal. Mmhmm. Your reasons for starting your blog are great, and I hope you continue to enjoy it. 🙂
Also, I’m loving the Newbie Blogger Spotlight! Getting started is hard (I still feel like I’m wandering around blindly and it’s been, like, eight months), so hopefully, this helps some newcomers!
Thank you! I hope it helps people too!

I love seeing people’s reasons to start a blog!
For me it was the realization of not having.. a real hobby? Whenever my boyfriend claimed a night of gaming time, I felt a bit lost. Sure, I had my books already but I felt like I wanted to do more than just sit there reading. Then I came into contact with someone selling a one time book box, telling me how she got most of the items in other subscription boxes but she didn’t really like them. She mentioned her blog and that got me curious. Once I started looking up some blogs, it was like this huge light bulb in my brain exploded, haha. Two days after, Books & Munches was born and I’ve been at it ever since. :’)
Welcome, Ellie!! 😀 I loved reading your reasons for starting your blog!
