Book Review: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (Harry Potter, #8)Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Honestly, I have no words. I’m going to be honest here, I didn’t intend to read this book, not immediately anyway. I wasn’t fussed about buying it, even though I am a HUGE Harry Potter nerd (Ravenclaw FTW!). I don’t believe in jumping in on the hype and liking a book just because it’s Harry Potter. I thought: It’s just a screenplay. It won’t even be remotely the same as reading the books… But I had to give it a go. So when I saw it for sale at YALC, I bought it.

I started reading and WOW. I was transported back into the world of Harry Potter like I’d never left.

Harry Potter Cursed Child

The story is well written with compelling characters. It deviates from the first 7 Harry Potters in a delightful way, shocking and surprising me many times. I laughed, I cried, I gasped out in shock. I audibly groaned at the appearance of some characters, and rejoiced in others. I don’t want to post any spoilers but honestly – I am still moved.

Harry Potter Cursed Child

Yes there are some inconsistencies and perhaps some characters behave a little out of character… But not enough to be detrimental. It was a great addition to the Harry Potter universe and I can’t wait to eventually go and see the play!
Read. This. Book.

Harry Potter, Always in my heart.
